Nutrition Awareness Campaign

Aanandi and Mrithika's presentation at Athen's Drive discussing the importance of nutritional awareness.

It is crucial that we have a better understanding of nutrition and how to better prepare ourselves for a lifestyle full of healthy choices and good health.

Learning how to read nutrition labels is key when purchasing food products. We cover the contents of labels such as Serving info., Calories, Nutrients cont. The Percent Daily Value. The information in these contents will help one determine if they should take it or put it back on the shelf.

Dietary Guidelines for Americans change every 5 years. Dietary guidelines are what nutrition and food programs all across the country use. The guidelines covers the intake of Fruits, Vegetables, Grains, Protein, and Dairy products.

Daily Recommended intake (DRI), the general term for a set of reference values used to plan and assess nutrient intakes of healthy people  and Recommended Dietary Allowances (RDA), the average daily level of intake sufficient to meet the nutrient requirements of nearly all (97%-98%) healthy people and both covered.

There are a variety of diets. Diets are there to help one follow a certain nutritional path in order to stay healthy. Types of diets include Atkins diet, Zone diet, Ketogenic diet, Vegetarian diet, Vegan diet, etc.

Staying active and drinking plenty of water is strongly suggested. This will compliment a well-balance diet with plenty of fruits, vegetables, and whole grains.

The obesity rate in the United States has become the most prominent domestic health issue of the 21st century. In order to tackle this issue, we must continue to spread nutritional awareness.
